Introducing: The Front Range Explorer

The key to any successful business venture is to have a plan. For new passenger rail startups around North America, we call this a Service Development Plan (SDP). The SDP provides a framework to define the physical characteristics of the proposed service, such as the route, the stations, and the rolling stock. The SDP also allows us to determine other aspects of the service, such as when the trains should run, what amenities we provide onboard, and how many staff are needed. With a completed SDP, we now have written documentation of our vision that we can share with you (our supporters), the potential host railroads, and the public agencies we will need to partner with to implement the plan.

How do you launch a new train service?

Give us the details!

The route for our proposed service extends 116 miles from Denver, Colorado, to Cheyenne, Wyoming, along the BNSF Railway Front Range Subdivision.

This train would be named the Front Range Explorer.

Proposed stations include Denver Union Station, Broomfield – Flatiron Crossing, Boulder, Longmont, Loveland, Fort Collins, and Cheyenne.

Anticipated journey times are as follows:

  • Denver to Boulder — 56 minutes

  • Denver to Longmont — 1 hour 14 minutes

  • Denver to Loveland — 1 hour 44 minutes

  • Denver to Fort Collins — 2 hours 8 minutes

  • Denver to Cheyenne — 3 hours 14 minutes

Our SDP presents a concept for an initial limited pilot service offering one round trip per day between Denver and Cheyenne.

Our ultimate vision is to operate four round trips per day using two trainsets, with two round trips extending to Cheyenne and the other two turning back at Fort Collins and Longmont, respectively.

We intend to have a diner-lounge car with onboard catering service for trains that operate to Cheyenne.

Without a doubt, there are many questions still left to answer. Those questions will be asked and addressed during future negotiations.
